Tan, L. 2024, September 12. Changing our flow of creative consciousness for Generative AI [Presentation], TEDx  Swinburne, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Details

As Generative AI technologies evolve, they not only become more efficient at mimicking human creativity, but also fundamentally challenge our approaches to this complex trait. Do outputs from Generative AI truly qualify as ‘creative’? How are our creative inputs being amplified or diminished by these technologies? And finally, how must we adapt our creative skills to maximise the benefits of AI-augmented creativity? This TEDx talk examines these provocative questions, exploring both the creative possibilities and ethical dilemmas presented by GenAI in creative and design domains. The talk begins by briefly illustrating how Generative AI use complex algorithms to analyse data and create visual outcomes. It then explores real-world projects to demonstrate how these technologies are reshaping traditional creative processes. Third, it describes the interaction between human creative consciousness – such as Flow state, Idea Fixation, and Problem Framing – and Generative AI, to uncover how these can coexist to enhance each other. Finally, the talk offers actionable strategies for individuals to adapt their creative approaches to enhance creativity through AI tools. Whether you are intrigued by the potential of Generative AI to enhance your creativity at work or concerned about its implications for the future of creative expression, this presentation will provide insights into the evolving AI-human creative partnership.
